Stage 6 of the Tour Monte Rosa takes you over the Monte Moro Pass (2’868 m), the highest point of this hike. The pass forms the border crossing between Italy and Switzerland and offers impressive views of the east face of Monte Rosa.

What to expect on this stage:

  • Ascent to the Monte Moro Pass with its striking Madonna statue
  • Option to reach the pass by aerial cable car as well
  • One of the steepest climbs of the tour, with views of the east face of Monte Rosa
  • Descent along the well-built Walser Trail to the Mattmark Reservoir
  • Hike alongside Europe’s largest natural dam
  • Several glacier-fed inflows and impressive glacier tongues from the Allalinhorn
  • At the Zer Meiggern compensation basin, a chapel commemorates the glacier collapse of 1965
  • The route then continues via Saas-Almagell to Saas-Fee, the car-free resort village
