The fifth stage of the Tour Monte Rosa takes you from Alagna Valsesia to Macugnaga via the historic Turlo Pass (2’738 m). This cobbled path was rebuilt by the military in the 1920s and 1930s and was once an important crossing between the Valsesia Valley and the Anzasca Valley for trade and migration.
What you can expect on this stage:
- Historic cobbled path over the Turlo Pass (2’738 m)
- Impressive views of the Valsesia Valley and the glaciers of Monte Rosa
- Hike through the Alta Valsesia Nature Park
- Steady ascent through deciduous and conifer forests, later across alpine pastures and meadows
- Descent into the Anzasca Valley through forests, past small waterfalls, and over wooden bridges
- Before Quarazza, you reach Feensee, a small artificial lake
